Project Overview: Truda Foods

Truda Foods is an African food manufacturing company that makes a range of quality maize snacks and food products. Before Jem, their HR department struggled with high volumes of loan requests from their predominantly deskless workforce.

They implemented Jem On-Demand Pay to solve their employee loan problem, and after seeing its quick uptake and popularity with their employees, implemented Jem Communications to digitally connect with their +750 frontline workforce. They also use Jem Payslips to save R134k/annually on payslips distribution, and save 6 hours of payroll time monthly.

Challenges

  • Before Jem, one of Truda Foods’ branches would administrator +-30 loans to their employees per month.
  • Employees would use paper based forms to apply for these loans and Truda’s HR manager would have to manually process each request, taking up to 2 hours of her time every month.
  • In extreme circumstances, employees were also opting to borrow money from their colleagues at work.
  • When they couldn’t repay in time, they would skip work in an effort to avoid their lender, resulting in increased employee absenteeism and abscondments.
  • Additionally, Truda would spend 4 hours a month distributing printed payslips to their factory workers, a process that was costing them R16.8 per payslip.
