"Communication talks to culture. Culture is the way we do things"

TiAuto Investments, the home of Tiger Wheel & Tyre and Wheel Collision, has 2,200+ employees across 160 sites nationally. CEO Alex Taplin chose Jem to reach every deskless employee instantly through one channel.

The problem pre-Jem

70% of employees relied on store managers to pass info on. Payslips were printed and hand-delivered. If the administrator wasn't there on payday, people waited. Career opportunities, policy changes and internal vacancies reached some people days late and others never. The CEO saw it as a fairness problem: whoever didn't get the message was at a disadvantage.

The solution with Jem

Digital payslips gave every employee secure, instant access via WhatsApp. Company-wide announcements now reach every team member at the same time regardless of role or location. Earned wage access replaced the garnishes and loan shark deductions, giving employees an affordable and company-approved alternative. Employees are more connected to the business and its goals.

Impact and outcome

The Wheel Collision pilot hit 68% adoption in month one. The full rollout hit 91% with no formal staff training. The HR team hasn't grown in over five years despite continued business expansion. But for the CEO, the real shift was cultural: for the first time, every employee is inside what he calls "the circle of trust."

“Our HR team reports to me directly. I see culture as a big part of my mandate. If you can't get the same message to everybody in the organisation consistently, then you are disadvantaging people.”
