Project Overview: Econo Foods

Econo Foods is the leading food service provider in the Free State, Northern Cape, Gauteng, and North West regions of South Africa, specialising in frozen foods and chilled products. Their workforce of 1,300 warehouse, transport and retail employees collectively serve their 3 million customers across the country. Econo Foods was looking for a communication tool to align with their company culture & communication strategy when they discovered Jem at CHRO’s HR Indaba.

Challenges

Econo Foods was struggling to communicate with their frontline employees. They were using notice boards and emails to communicate critical information across 30+ different locations, which proved ineffective. They were also manually distributing printed payslips to their employees, a process that was costing them R30,000 per year and 4 hours of their HR teams’ time per month.

  • HR and Payroll can now track when employees have received and viewed any communication.
  • Econo Foods sent out 113 announcements, surveys and questionnaires to their employees in the first 3 months of using Jem.
  • Using Jem’s tagging feature, they segment their communication by management seniority or branch location.
  • Econo Foods now spends only 10 minutes distributing payslips every month - a 96% decrease in time spent on this admin intensive process.
