Challenges

Wasteplan was unable to build company culture due to ineffective communication. The broken chain of communication to employees - sending communication from the head office to frontline employees via Regional Contract Managers was not effective. There was a high operational burden associated with communicating to employees, with Regional Contract Managers spending a minimum of 30 minutes at each site per week. 

Results

Improved company culture & higher staff retention

  • Jem has removed the operational burden of physically sending communication to frontline employees, saving Regional Contract Managers roughly 470 hours per week and 24,440 hours annually.
  • Jem facilitated more robust and effective communication to employees, which motivated them. This in turn has helped Wasteplan reduce staff turnover at some sites from 30% per month to 25%, and this continues to decline.
  • Jem enabled Wasteplan to streamline all communication from the head office  to employees, resulting in all employees receiving the same message via WhatsApp, at the same time, directly from the source.
  • Jem helped Wasteplan communicate with their employees using video. This helps them tell the stories that matter and positively change attitudes between employees and employer.
